Distortion as part of the human experience explores a conglomerate of ideas surrounding the ontological inquisition of the subjectivity of experience. The exhibition highlights the exploration of everyday interpersonal relationships, the misplacement and restriction of sexuality and the surrender of control to the unknown. Taking a closer look at how the brain copes with the intangible or ambiguous nature of the unknown whilst also considering the internal turmoil of one’s identity in temporal correspondence with their own experiences.

The exhibition also evokes the abstract themes and ideas surrounding the innate individuality of the human consciousness and the disengagement between perception and reality through visual illusions. Permitting a dialogue between a-priori knowledge and the privacy of introspection, while also considering how visual illusions exemplify how the brain fails to reconstruct the physical world. We explore these themes through a variety of medium such as sculpture, drawing, painting and making, each from our own interpretation of distortion as a part of the human experience.
